I have a very special room reveal to share with you all today! I was absolutely thrilled when Erica (creator of the fantastic food blog Everything Erica) asked me to design her nursery! And when Erica said she wanted a blush + gray nursery for her baby girl (my favorite colors!), I instantly knew the project was a match made in design heaven.
The goal was to create a nursery that felt serene, sweet and feminine place for baby Elia and her parents to spend time in. I always recommend going with light neutral colors for the larger furniture to create a tranquil vibe, and that way they can be used again for any future babies. For this nursery, we went with gray + cream furniture and then added blush as the primary accent color with smaller touches of white and gold. Here is the design board I created as a guide for the room:
I also put together a checklist that we used to make sure baby Elia had everything she needed in her new nursery. Any parent-to-be can use the list as a design guide--you can grab it here!
Just to give you an idea of what the room looked like before we started, take a look at these BEFORE pictures:
And now, for the AFTER!
The crib and changing table were the first two items purchased and were the inspiration for the rest of the space. The tufted crib from Restoration Hardware is a show stopper (I love it SO much) and was the perfect piece to build a room around--it's classic with beautiful detail and has the sweet, romantic look we were going for. I always recommend picking one piece to be the focal point and then selecting other design elements that complement it.
With the crib as the focal point, we created an accent wall behind it by painting the perfect shade of blush on the wall and adding little touches of blush in the crib skirt and bedding. This wall needed a little something extra, but nothing too heavy or busy that would take away from the crib. This wall decal is one of my favorites and has such a lovely, whimsical look and message. It’s subtle, simple and so sweet--I love how it turned out!
With the crib area complete, we focused on pulling together the other pieces to add functional storage and a few pretty accessories. Erica and I collaborated and found the perfect pieces to make a cohesive design that fits her exact needs and tastes. Erica was a real joy to work with--a client who knows what they want, is open to new ideas and makes decisions quickly!
The wall opposite the blush accent wall needed a little something to tie in the blush and gold, but I wanted to keep it very minimal. This was the perfect space to add some stylish storage with floating shelves to hold books, toys and a little decor. And a few more subtle wall decals introduced a bit more blush to the cream corner!
Erica is obsessed with elephants and one of her other requests was to incorporate a couple cute elephants around the room. How adorable are these little guys?!
I like to add a few personal items to every space I work on--it can be family photos, mementos or custom pieces, something personalized for that client. For this project, I wanted to do something tasteful, subtle and girly to go with the overall theme of the room. We went with a gold "E" for a small wall and a custom pillow with her name on it:
I had so much fun on this project that I'm thinking I may want to focus on designing more nurseries in the future. What do you think of the room?
